Abstract
The history of the world is the history of migration. Migration has taken place since time immemorial and will continue in the future. Generally, people move either legally or illegally in search of better opportunities or out of fear of persecution by political and ethnic groups. India is often described as a land of migrants, and India-Bangladesh relations are very much influenced by the issue of migration, particularly after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman in 1975. However, the issue of migration from Bangladesh into India has been a controversial subject for a long time. This is now viewed as a threat to the internal security of India. Migration of Bangladeshis into India, particularly Assam, Tripura, and West Bengal, has led to numerous clashes. The Government of India has adopted many policies and strategies to prevent illegal migration. There is no accurate figure available regarding the number of Bangladeshi migrants settled in or entering India due to a lack of reliable data. The paper will focus on various causes and consequences of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in India, look at the policies of the Indian government towards Bangladeshi migrants, and highlight the number of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in India.
